Over time, accessories lose their luster, glamor, and shine; because of the accumulation of dirt and dust on them, the neglect of cleaning them, the maintenance of different types of accessories together, or the exposure to moisture, chemicals or water for long periods of time. In this article we will present a number of ways to polish, maintain and restore the various accessories.

Methods of polishing accessories

  • Toothpaste: Toothpaste has proven to be effective in cleaning and polishing silver and gold accessories. It uses soft toothbrush, apply a small amount of putty, then rub the accessory, leave the putty to dry, wash it with water and dry it with a woolen cloth.
  • Dishwashing liquid: It is used by placing a small amount of liquid in a jar, then adding warm water to it, and then put the accessories in the water for a whole night, then wash and dry.
  • Onion: Used through, the grating of onions to get juice, then put the onion juice on the soft toothbrush, let the accessory well, then wash it with water and dry it.
  • Sodium bicarbonate: used by placing a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate, in a small amount of water, add salt to it, then soak accessories for minutes, and then rubbed with a brush teeth, then wash, and dried.
  • Boiling water: Use by putting the golden accessories to be cleaned, in a pot, add water to it, then put the pot on the fire, leave it to boil, and then remove it from the fire, and start rubbing the accessories with a toothbrush, after the water cools, and then rinse the accessories with warm water, dry it when finished.
  • Mix water and lemon juice: Used to clean silver accessories, by putting accessories in a pot filled with hot water, lemon juice, then rubbed with a piece of chamois.
  • Potato water: Used to polish the silver accessories by rubbing it with a cloth soaked in potato water.
  • Lemon juice: Used to polish the copper accessories, by soaking the accessory in a bowl filled with lemon juice, then soaked pot of water and soap, and then washed with water, and dried.
  • Salt: Used to polish accessories made of cloth, by spraying the accessory with salt, and clean it with a toothbrush.

Ways to protect accessories from rust

  • Take off the accessories from the fingers, hands, or neck when bathing.
  • Apply a layer of transparent nail polish (colorless) on the inner side of the accessory; it acts as a buffer against sweat.
  • Wear accesories after finishing cosmetic, or perfume; to avoid exposure to chemicals.
  • Keep the accessories in sealed boxes; to avoid exposure to air, it is also recommended to place silica gel bags, or grains of rice; to absorb moisture.
  • Avoid mixing accessories with each other.
  • Cleaning accessories periodically; to avoid accumulation of dirt, dust it.
