Copper
Copper is a chemical element. It is used in the formation of many alloys such as gold to give it a certain hardness. It is also used in the manufacture of coins and when mixed with zinc, they produce a bronze alloy, and in the past they made military armor and musical equipment.
Copper is one of the first metals to be used by humans, discovered more than 10 thousand years BC. It is present in nature either alone or in combination with oxides. It is soft in composition, physically and chemically interacting and can be easily formed by drilling.
How to drill on copper
There are several types of copper that can be engraved on it: brass, red copper, white copper, but currently uses only two types: red and yellow, and yellow is expensive for purity and free of impurities and is characterized by its simplicity and ease of engraving on copper in several steps are as follows:
- We choose the appropriate piece and we do the equivalent of any knocks with hammer and sand to equal all parts and then wipe them well to be smooth.
- Draw on the piece with a pencil of the shape we want, with the help of a painter or the same person if he is good at drawing and planning.
- We start with the process of opening the cells that we have drawn to coordinate the cells to be equal with each other by using the pen and the stone.
- The pen is engraved or engraved with hammer. These pens include the “Jewelry” pen, which is used to form small circles, and we can use the pen for engraving the desired points in the drawing and the pen for the work of the copper floor such as sand.
- We knock and dig on the copper by passing the pen on the shape drawn by the knock on it and that needs patience and accuracy.
- We go with a piece of copper to the lathe to get the shape of the outer piece whether we want it round, rectangular or otherwise.
- Brush the piece with the brush and then apply it in either gold, bronze or silver and can be painted with more than one color.
- The process of drilling or decoration on copper in three ways are:
- The method of engraving by chisel and hammer.
- High knock mode.
- The method of pouring silver metal on copper is a difficult way and needs skill and experience.
Problems facing the drilling craft on copper
- The significant increase in the price of copper resulting in the departure of many craftsmen this craft.
- The lack of profits of this craft.
- Importing cheap copper products from abroad despite its poor quality.
- Innovations of drilling by chemical drilling.
