Hypertension in the eye means high pressure in your eyes, where your eye pressure (IOP) is higher than normal. If left untreated, high eye pressure can cause glaucoma and permanent vision loss in some individuals. People can have high blood pressure in the eye, without causing any damage to their eyes or vision, which can be determined by conducting a comprehensive eye examination and testing the visual field.
Researchers estimate that high blood pressure in the eye increases the likelihood of glaucoma and the most common type of glaucoma from 10 to 15 times. According to a study of the treatment of hypertension, 4,5-9.4 percent of Americans aged 40 or older have High blood pressure in the eye, increasing the risk of glaucoma threatening vision.
How do you know if you have high blood pressure?
You can not diagnose yourself because you do not have high blood pressure in the eye, because there are no external signs such as eye pain or red eyes, but during the comprehensive eye examination, the eye doctor will measure your IOP
Compared to normal levels, reading eye pressure 21 mmHg or (mmHg) generally indicates eye hypertension.
If you shoot your eyeballs that are swollen by pressure, it will make you better imagine why it is important to check your eye’s high blood pressure. High eye pressure continues to increase the strength of pressure inside your inner eye and can therefore damage your sensitive eye, Causing glaucoma.
What causes high eye pressure?
Factors that cause or are associated with high blood pressure in the eye are almost the same causes of glaucoma, including:
1 – an excessive water production (or water mixing), a clear liquid produced in the eye by the ciliary body, a structure located behind the iris, a water flow through the pupil and fills the front circle of the eye, in the space between the iris and cornea.
2 – discharge of the liquid from the eye through the structure of a network called the tibia, in the vicinity of the front circle, where the cornea and iris meet, if the ciliary body produces a lot of liquid, the pressure in the eye increases, causing the high blood pressure in the eye.
3 – Liquid discharge is inadequate, if the discharge of liquid is very slowly from the eye, this disrupts the natural balance of the production and discharge of liquid eye, and this will cause high eye pressure.
