Home methods to remove gum from clothes

Freezing

Freezing is one of the methods used to remove chewing gum:

  • Place the piece of gum-affected clothing in the milling bag, taking care not to stick the gum in the bag, and then place it in the freezer.
  • Be sure to close the bag tightly, and you should know that this method can be applied to all types of fabrics.
  • Leave the bag inside the freezer for a minimum of two hours.
  • Remove the bag from the freezer.
  • Place the garment piece on a strong surface after removing it from the milling bag.
  • Peel chewing gum on clothes as soon as possible; they are still frozen.
  • If a person can not remove the gum with his fingernails, it is possible to use a sharp knife or any suitable tool, taking care and caution in case of use of substances that may be dangerous, and harm the person or the fabric.
  • Remove and peeling the gum for clothes smoothly and without any strength, wash your hands well, and clean the clothes permanently in the washing machine.

Boil

This is done by following the following steps:

  • Put the damaged garment piece into a pot of hot water.
  • Scrub the gum from the clothing piece, immersed in hot water, using a toothbrush and a knife.
  • Rub the damaged clothing which is immersed in hot water.
  • Leave the clothing piece until dry, and repeat the steps if you can not get rid of the spot completely.

Note: The gum can be removed by boiling the hot water in a pot and exposing the damaged piece of clothing directly to the water vapor, leaving it for one minute. The steam will soften the gum and rub the gum in one direction using a toothbrush.

Lemonade

Lemon juice is an effective household method in removing gum from clothing, does not cause any damage to the fabric of clothing, and very cheap, where the damaged clothing is soaked in lemon juice, peeling gum on it using a sharp tool edge, preferably washing clothes as soon as possible.

Adhesive tape

Adhesive tape is used to dispose of chewing gum on clothes, according to the following steps:

  • Cut off part of the adhesive tape, and stick it with chewing gum by pressing it, taking care to cover the spot completely.
  • Remove the adhesive tape from the spot location.
  • Repeat the process if the spot is not cleaned completely.

Mayonnaise

The mayonnaise is poured on the gum, it is gently brushed and softened with a suitable tool, and then the clothing piece is washed well.

Alcohol

Alcohol is used to remove gum from sensitive fabrics, not to remove colors from clothing, as it removes gum from clothes according to the following steps:

  • Put a little alcohol on a piece of cloth or sponge.
  • Rub the gum with sponge, and wait a few minutes, until the alcohol is in the gum.
  • Use a sponge or wooden spoon to remove the gum, where the gum will appear less stiff after taking the alcohol.
  • Clean the clothing with soap and water, and make it dry.

Ironing

One of the most commonly used household cleaning methods for chewing gum is ironing, according to the following steps:

  • Place the damaged piece on the ironing table, or any flat surface, then cover the spot with clean cardboard.
  • Adjust the iron to a medium temperature, and iron the cardboard until the gum sticks to it.
  • Remove the cardboard from the peeling-affected piece, ensuring that the clothing has been thoroughly cleaned of the damage.

Note: There are many other household methods that can be used to remove gum from clothing, including peanut butter, vinegar, liquid laundry soap, and orange oil.

Chemical methods for removing gum from clothing

Gasoline

Gasoline is a dangerous, flammable substance. It can be used to clean the gum from clothing by taking a small amount of it and placing it on the gum spot. It dissolves and can be removed by cleaning it with a toothbrush or knife, then soak and wash well. To remove the odor of gasoline, , the light-weight liquids, which are usually filled inside the cigarette lighter, can be used. The gum-affected piece is soaked in a good amount of liquid until it is finally disposed of. Clothes are cleaned and washed by hand.

Fix hair spray

Spray the hair spray directly onto the gum, making the gum more solid and easily removed by scraping it with any suitable tool.
