Thyroid concept
The thyroid gland is one of the endocrine glands located at the bottom of the neck. Two hormones, thyroxine T4 and triiodothyron3, are secreted. The function of their hormones is to regulate and speed up vital activities throughout the body. The disease is caused by increased secretion of these hormones called hyperthyroidism, These hormones are called thyroid insufficiency
There are many symptoms associated with hyperthyroidism, including: increased appetite, weight loss, diarrhea, increased heartbeat, and menstrual cycle disorders in women. The symptoms of hypothyroidism are loss of appetite, weight gain, constipation, lethargy, and others. The diagnosis of the disease is based on thyroid screening; the T4, T3 and thyroid hormone are examined.
Treatment of hypothyroidism is based on giving the patient fibotheroxine. Treatment of hyperthyroidism depends on surgical, radiological and pharmacological treatment. We will talk about the treatment in more detail.
Treatment of hypothyroidism
The treatment of hypothyroidism is based on the patient’s compensation for thyroxine. In people under 60 who do not have heart disease, the doctor gives them levothyroxine and the dose ranges between 50-100 micrograms daily.
In older patients or those with known heart disease, the dose is reduced to between 12.5 and 25 micrograms daily. The patient’s response is followed by screening of the thyroid stimulating hormone every 6-8 weeks, reducing the dose by between 12.5 – 25 micrograms at each test until we reach the normal level of this hormone, and then keep this dose for life, and increase the dose by 30-50% during pregnancy; any imbalance in this increase affects the growth of the nervous system of the child
In the case of acute hypothyroidism, a condition in which the patient suffers from coma and severe acute body temperature and shortness of breath, the patient is given a dose of intravenous lipotoxin 250-500 micrograms, and then given a daily dose of 50-100 micrograms Of levothroxine. Hydrocortisone is given with a dose of 50 mg every six hours, combined with lifting the body temperature through the caps and supporting breathing.
