Dandruff can be treated by changing the daily diet and taking the following steps:
- Food concentration on zinc-containing foods that restrict scalp production of oil that causes crust, and zinc can be obtained from animal sources such as oysters, red meat, poultry, and oatmeal.
- Reduce the amount of sugar by reducing the foods that contain high rates of it; it was found that these foods may increase the dandruff in some people, especially as they prevent the absorption of vitamins B, which is a key element in any anti-dandruff, Antioxidant C and E in the body.
- Eat garlic and onions because they contain antifungal alicin.
- Eat plenty of foods rich in vitamin B; for example: beans, meat, poultry, fish, and some fruits and vegetables.

There are home remedies to eliminate the crust, including:
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is characterized by its anti-fungal properties, moisturizes the head lashes and prevents itching, and can be used as follows:
- Mix coconut oil with half the amount of lemon juice.
- Rub the head lashes and massage with the mixture for a few minutes.
- Wash the hair after at least 20 minutes.
- Repeat this process 2-3 times a week.
olive oil
Olive oil is known for its moisturizing properties, so it can be used to get rid of the crust as follows:
- Heat the olive oil slightly.
- Massage head lashes with warm olive oil.
- Cover the hair with a warm towel, and leave for at least 45 minutes or for a full night.
- Wash hair with shampoo and conditioner.
- Repeat the process several times a week.

The conditions that require a doctor to visit are:
- Incurable cases that show that there is a certain condition.
- Signs of infection, such as redness, irritability, or swelling.
- Do not get rid of the crust even after using home remedies.
- Shampoo or treatment causes irritation of the head lashes; it must be stopped immediately.
- HIV infection or AIDS, or if the person’s immune system is weak.
