Bacteria of cats
Is a fungal infection caused by a single-cell fungus called Gonadi toxoplasmosis. These fungi are found around the world, and statistics indicate that about 60 million people have been infected with the bacterial infection of cats in the United States of America. In spite of the large number of people infected with this infection, but the symptoms do not usually appear in healthy people, because their immune system prevents their appearance. What is interesting is the vulnerability of pregnant women and patients with impaired immunity, as the infection of the bacterial infection of cats can cause health problems that may pose a threat to their lives. This infection can be caused by many causes, such as eating poorly cooked meat, using kitchen utensils contaminated with cats’ germs, and drinking contaminated water. The infection may also be transmitted to the body when cleaning cat litter. The infected mother can also transmit the infection to her fetus, as well as the possibility of human infection if the transplantation of organs, or blood transfusion if they are carrying these fungi.
Symptoms of infection with cats
In most cases, the infection of the bacterium is not accompanied by any symptoms, because of the resistance of the immune system in the body and to prevent the emergence of these symptoms. Symptoms that appear on healthy people differ from those that appear on pregnant women and on people with impaired immune systems. These symptoms are as follows:
- Symptoms similar to flu symptoms : Between 10% and 20% of healthy patients with catheteriasis suffer from it. These symptoms are usually mild and disappear within weeks. These symptoms include:
- High body temperature.
- Feeling muscle aches.
- Fatigue and feeling very tired.
- Suffering from pain in the head.
- Swelling of lymph nodes.
- Sore throat.
- Symptoms appear on people with impaired immune system Such as those infected with HIV, who are undergoing chemotherapy, or who are taking immunosuppressive drugs if they undergo organ transplantation. Then their immune system is unable to resist the infection, moving to vital organs such as the heart, brain, lungs, and eyes, and show signs of infection, severe, and these symptoms are as follows:
- Severe pain in the head.
- Suffering from confusion and confusion.
- Spasticity.
- Suffering from pneumonia, similar to that associated with tuberculosis.
- Suffering from blurred vision, resulting from severe retinal inflammation.
- Symptoms that appear on the child when the infection is transmitted from the mother : In many cases, abortion or death of the fetus within the uterus. However, if a child is successful, he or she will have several health problems. Many symptoms may occur, and these health problems usually occur months or even years after birth. The most prominent of these symptoms are as follows:
- Suffering from convulsions.
- Enlarged liver or spleen.
- Sores that appear on the skin or eye.
- Suffering from severe eye infections.
- Hearing loss.
- Low mental capacity.
Treatment of infection of the germ of cats
Most people with CID do not need any treatment, but if they have symptoms of severe inflammation and the patient is otherwise healthy, medication may be used. The drug is mainly used in the treatment of malaria, which has several side effects, such as inhibition of the bone marrow, causing liver poisoning, and prevents the absorption of folic acid, especially if it is taken in large doses, so doctors resort to giving supplements containing folic acid . There is also sulfadazine, which is used as a compound with pyrimethamine.
These drugs are also used to treat cats’ germs in people with HIV. A compound of pyrimethamine and clindamycin may also be used, and this antibiotic may cause severe diarrhea. Some patients may take these drugs for life only if one of the components of the CD4 immune system is checked. If a normal rate is found for at least 3 or 6 months, the patient can stop taking the cathode treatment.
If pregnant women are infected and the fetus is not infected, spiramycin is usually used. The use of this medicine may reduce the risk of developing nervous system disorders. If the tests show that the fetus is infected with a bacterial infection, the doctor may decide to use pyrimethamine and sulfadazine in special cases after 16 weeks of pregnancy because these drugs are not usually given during pregnancy because of health problems on the mother and fetus. If the fetus is born with a cat’s germ, these drugs are usually used as well.
