How to Measure Hypertension

How to Measure Hypertension

The human heart acts like a pump that drives blood from the lung to the rest of the body through the arteries. The blood flows back to the lungs through the veins in the form of a sequential cycle, and a regular form between constriction and regularity, called pulses.

What is blood pressure?

Blood pressure is the pressure that blood forms on the wall of blood vessels from arteries or veins or even blood capillaries, and this pressure is produced by the force through which the heart drives the blood in the arteries.

Blood pressure measurement

A device called the Sphygmomanometer is used to measure blood pressure. This device is made up of a belt that contains a bag in it. This bag is filled with air using a pneumatic pump and a measuring device is connected to the bag. The device is accompanied by an earpiece that is used to hear the sound of blood flow while measuring pressure.

Readings taken by the pressure device

  • Upper reading: This reading represents systolic pressure. Systolic pressure is defined as the amount of pressure the heart generates when blood is pumped through the arteries when the muscles contract, and the normal rate is 110 to 139.
  • Lower reading: through which diastolic pressure is indicated. Diastolic pressure is defined as the lower pressure that occurs as a result of relaxation of the heart muscle leading to low blood pressure. With a normal range of 70 to 89.

Normal pressure rate

The ideal pressure is to be less than 120/80 mm Hg.

How to measure blood pressure

  • Sit on the SANDA bench back and put the upper limbs on the same level as the heart.
  • The person who wants to measure the pressure will then attach the belt to the hand well above the elbow, so that the end of the belt at the line that appears at the elbow joint.
  • The headset is placed under the belt and fastened gently, and should be carefully avoided.
  • The air valve is closed.
  • The inflatable bladder device for measuring blood pressure, and then continue the inflatable belt that blood stops flowing, here you do not hear any sound of blood in the handset.
  • The air valve opens gently, until the belt is gradually emptied of the air. Once the blood starts flowing, the person will be able to hear the sound on the speaker.
  • Repeated and clear sound appears on the measuring device; this is the systolic pressure of the blood.
