Thyme
Thyme is one of the most famous herbs used in the preparation of food. It has medical and therapeutic benefits as well as its usefulness in food seasoning. Thyme cultivation is spread in warm areas. Its cultivation requires fertile soil rich in nutrients. It must be good for water so that it does not accumulate, It is grown during the spring season.
The growth of thyme is long lasting. It is a perennial plant. There are also some aquatic species that live on the banks of rivers and lakes. There is wild thyme that bears cold temperatures and grows on the tops of the mountains.
Thyme has been used since ancient times, used by ancient Egyptians in their embalming the bodies of the dead, while used in Greece in the form of incense for their belief that it is a source of courage.
Thyme can be taken fresh, added to foods, or dipped in tea or with tea, or can be dried and the use of grater. Thyme has many benefits such as treatment of respiratory infections and increase the strength of the immune system and others, but also has some damage to the body.

- Some species cause elevated blood pressure, so people suffering from high blood pressure diseases should stay away from it.
- Affects the work of the thyroid gland, as studies by a group of German researchers showed a negative reaction to the bacterium on the secretion of pituitary hormone, and the overall conclusion showed a reduction in the level of thyroid hormones when eating thyme constantly.
- Affects the heart, as it may due to rapid breathing, heart failure and sometimes enter into a coma.
- Cause some inflammation on the surface of the skin if placed on the skin directly.
- It interacts with certain drugs such as high blood pressure medications, thyroid disease, and it interacts with progesterone and estrogen receptors, so it is not recommended to be taken with contraceptives or hormone replacement drugs.
- Reacts with certain supplements of herbs which reduce the effect of these supplements on the body.
