Thirst

Is the feeling of the need to drink something, and this happens whenever the body is dry for any reason; any situation that leads to loss of water from it can lead to thirst or excessive thirst, which is why it is a characteristic symptom of some medical cases, notably diabetes .

The thirst may be accompanied by some signs of dryness such as: low urine intake, lack of secretions sweating and tears, muscle cramps, weakness, dizziness, and nausea. Drought and thirst are mild or severe, depending on the amount of water lost from the body.

Reasons for drinking water frequently

  • Eating a salty or hot meal recently: It is often noticed that the person feels very thirsty the day he ate a hot or salty meal such as fish, so that the feeling is strong and almost the person does not feel wet when drinking water.
  • Severe bleeding that leads to low blood level and strength: Blood is the body containing fluids, and loss of large quantities of it will feel a person thirsty severe, and this type immediately disappear when the amount of blood that is bleeding from the body.
  • Diabetes: thirst is an early symptom of diabetes. It is often discovered by drinking lots of fluids and urinating frequently.
  • Diabetic Diabetes.
  • Medications such as anticholinergic, demiclucycline, diuretics, and phenothiazines: Some medications are accompanied by some side effects such as severe and frequent thirst throughout the treatment period.
  • Loss of body fluids from the bloodstream to the tissues due to exposure to some cases such as: acute infections or burns, or heart disease, liver or kidney failure.
  • Mental disorder called psychological thirst: when the person is infected with this disorder continue to feel thirst even if not need to drink water.

Because thirst is the body’s signal to lose water from the body, it is often necessary to drink enough fluids. For diabetes-induced thirst, the prescribed treatment should be followed to properly control the level of sugar in the blood and thus eliminate the feeling of intense and constant thirst.
