Astacus channel
Is a tube that extends from the front wall of the middle ear to the side wall of the nose and is known as the nose, which is part of the middle ear, and consists of bone part and a part of the cartilage with four muscles linked to it. Named after the Italian anatomy scientist Bartolomeo Estaci, a sixteenth-century scientist who first dissected the ear.
The main function of the channel is to ventilate the middle ear by keeping the pressure close to normal external air pressure. The second function is to filter any accumulated secretions or infections in the ear. Swallowing and yawning cause constriction around the muscles around the canal. Helps regulate channel function.
Symptoms of blockage of the Estacius channel
The problems of this channel are associated with ear infections, which are among the most common problems among people; many suffer from chronic problems in the middle ear that cause loss of balance in the body, and the extent of severity of sensitivity. Smoking causes damage through the accumulation of mucus in it, and children are more susceptible to infection because their audio channels are shorter, making it more rapid than the adult channels. Among the most important symptoms of the failure of the channel Astacious is:
- Feeling pain in the ear and feeling full of something.
- Hear ringing or ringing in the ear.
- Hearing problems.
- Feeling dizzy and unbalanced.
Causes of Estacios duct obstruction
- Swelling due to cold and allergies.
- Sinusitis.
- Wax that collects in the middle ear.
- Exposure to pressure and pooling fluids by diving or swimming.
- Is a common disease in children with Down Syndrome
* Quick change in height, such as: go from high area to low area very quickly, such as: car ride, lift, or plane ride.
* Swimming, because it changes the pressure surrounding the body suddenly, leading to blockage of the channel.
Treatment of blockage of Estacios channel
In many cases the channel improves on its own, and one can do a simple exercise to treat this blockage, by:
- Close the nose by squeezing it with the fingers and blowing it strongly through the mouth just like the mucus disposal process, and this method can be repeated more than once to get the desired results.
- Yawning or chewing gum also eliminates the problem of the blockage of the Astacius channel.
- Eating or just swallowing opens this channel; because the muscles in the back of the throat help open them.
- Many children get blocked by the Astacus channel, especially children who travel on airplanes, so it is best for the mother to give her child a lollipop or a bottle of milk to move the muscles of the throat and open the obstruction of the canal.
