Gold is considered one of the precious metals in the jewelery industry. Gold passes through many steps for its melting and processing to start the process of forming and making jewelry. Before starting to formulate, gold is chosen according to the standard. Pure gold is twenty four, but it is not suitable for making jewelry. It is more solid and stronger because it is mixed with other metals such as copper and silver.
The process of smelting gold
- After processing the required standard, goldsmith begins to process gold smelting and needs the following equipment:
- Melting Furnace: It is a furnace built of fire stone and ignite the fire inside it through a tube connected to a gas bottle, and can use an electric oven with the same specifications.
- Melting Pot: A stone vessel with a conical shape and a flat base of different sizes according to the quantity to be smelted.
- Molds: molds of various sizes and shapes to suit the molds, including wide and narrow.
- Handle Catcher: It is a tool to hold the powder after melting gold, and pour it into casting molds.
- Materials that help in the process of melting gold: It is mostly a substance of peroxide.
- A rod of carbon to detect the content of the powder to homogenize the solution.
- Rolling process: The molten gold is poured into the casting molds and cooled and then comes the rolling process, which is an important operation on the alloy; because the jeweler is the formation of pieces and measurements, taking into account the thickness and diameter using rolling machines.
- Rolling machines are divided into two types and can be integrated into one machine, the wire and pallet. This machine simplifies and reduces the thickness according to length and width, and there are machines that reduce the diameter of the wire to small sizes up to the noodles called disk machines, and the heating between the period and the other to get the required softness.
- Drafting: The process of drafting varies according to the product to be manufactured.
