Gold and copper
There are many people who differ in how to differentiate between gold and copper. Both are metals. Copper is similar to gold in color and body. Gold is precious metals, and its use is often limited to jewelery. The value of the world’s currencies is estimated through the state’s gold reserves. Gold is very strong in its elasticity and high thickness to form without breaking or cracking.
Copper is a metal used in the manufacture of some jewelry, but its value is not as high as gold, and exist in nature frequently, and is in red if it is pure and when mixed with zinc becomes a yellow color is like gold in a phenomenon, so we thought to introduce in this article some ways through which gold and copper can be easily separated.
Methods of differentiation between gold and copper
- Magnet method: When the magnet of gold is not attracted to it, it is the method used to differentiate between the original gold from the adulterated, while the copper when the magnet is drawn to it, attracted to it, as the copper metal magnet attracted to the magnet.
- Acids: If you can not use the previous method, you can bring acid can be obtained from the markets easily, preferably the use of nitric acid, when the gold is placed in the acid does not change its color, if it remained long, as it does not react with acids. The acid quickly reacts and changes copper color and becomes dark brown.
- Going to the places where gold is sold: The workers in the gold shops have their means and ways to distinguish gold from others just by looking at it or by placing the piece on the gold screening device.
- Gold oxidation does not oxidize when exposed to air, while copper oxidizes quickly and consists of a layer in green.
- Scratching: The piece can be scratched with a piece of ceramic or iron. Gold is easy to scratch because it is soft. Copper is harsh and can not be easily scratched.
Physical properties of copper
- Conductor for heat and electricity, where it is used in power supply wires.
- It is made of batteries and some electrical equipment such as: electrical equipment.
- Easy roads and clouds, and melt at 940 degrees.
- Affected by air.
Physical properties of gold
- Very inert metal not affected by air, humidity, and heat.
- Does not dissolve in acids.
- It only affects mercury.
