Diabetes
We know that diabetes is of two types. The first type of diabetes is characterized by a decrease in the amount of insulin secreted from the pancreas, while the second type is characterized by strong resistance of cells against the effect of insulin, but there is a third type of diabetes, , And in this article we will know the sugar of pregnancy and when to diagnose and methods of analysis.
Pregnancy diabetes
Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that affects pregnant women, and is characterized by a shortage of insulin, and the weakness of the response of cells and tissues of the body to insulin, leading to high blood sugar, but this type affects only women during pregnancy, During pregnancy, the disease is reduced or the mother becomes fully cured after birth. However, this requires constant medical monitoring during pregnancy, unlike normal diabetes, known to everyone as a person.
This type of diabetes affects the health of the mother and fetus, although the infection is temporary, resulting in an enlarged fetal body, and the occurrence of abnormalities in the heart or the central nervous system and structural system, and sometimes may cause high levels of insulin in the fetus, leading to Hepatitis, or jaundice due to lack of red blood cells, and in serious cases may lead to the death of the fetus.
Reasons for conducting pregnancy sugar analysis
Pregnant mothers are always advised to perform an analysis of gestational diabetes, which may cause damage to the health of the mother and her fetus if it is not detected or neglected. The following are the most important cases requiring this analysis:
- Maternal injury in obesity.
- In the event of a mother with gestational diabetes in her previous pregnancy.
- Increase the age of women for thirty years.
- The presence of sugar in the urine.
- If a family member has diabetes.
Method of analysis of gestational sugar
A gestational diabetes analysis is performed after the twenty-second week of gestation, and the procedure is usually performed by three tests, as follows:
- The first test: Here the blood sugar curve of the pregnant woman after fasting for eight hours, and then the mother takes 100 grams of dissolved glucose in the water by mouth, and then the sugar is measured three times to separate an hour between each time, and this is the most accurate test , And the result of the analysis if the sugar in the case of fasting more than 90 mg / dL, or 175 hours after, or 150 hours after two hours, or 135 after three hours, here the mother is pregnant with diabetes.
- The second test is done in the twenty-sixth week of pregnancy. Here, the pregnant woman is given 50 grams of oral glucose. An hour later, a sample of the mother’s blood is drawn and analyzed. If the sugar reaches 140 mg / dl.
- The third test: Here is a sample of urine and the analysis of sugar through them, but this method is the least accurate between the previous methods.
